For the first time in Portugal, part of my long term series “Rio Baile Funk” was exhibited at the Stork Club - architect Jacques Grange’s flagship store in Comporta - and curated by Pierre Passebon, owner of the Parisian Galerie du Passage. (1st of August - 30th of September 2019).

Brazil.Afro-Atlantic Histories presents a selection of 450 works by 214 artists ranging from the 16th to 21st centuries and centered on the “ebbs and flows” among Africa, Americas, Caribbean and also Europe, to borrow the famous phrase by Pierre Verger, the French ethnologist, photographer and babalô priest who made Bahia his home.

Highlighting three artists, based on separate continents, the “Midnight Mass” exhibition looks to explore and capture the essence and power of booming underground club scenes globally. A romanticisation of these social spaces saturated with human connection, self-expression, recklessness and flamboyancy through performance, drama, dance, and music.
